Lady Dragons huddle in a timeout during second set of Vista Ridge game

Round Rock took to the road to face Vista Ridge on Sept. 7. The Lady Dragons held on for dear life in a long four set thriller. Round Rock jumped out to an early two set lead, but before Round Rock could claim the victory, Vista Ridge had to make it interesting. In the end, Round Rock took the win over first-time district opponent Vista Ridge 3-1, and got a much needed district win on the road.

“We all came into the huddle and looked at each other,” junior Lauren Malone said, “I told them that we are not going down without a fight. We are going to show them who Round Rock is.”

After dropping the third set to Vista Ridge, the Lady Dragons engaged in their longest set of the season thus far. As the clock struck about 8:30 p.m., Round Rock and Vista Ridge were tied at 25 points a piece, and headed into extra time to settle the pivotal fourth set. With both student sections on their feet, Round Rock and Vista Ridge traded points until the Dragons pulled away 34-32 capping a crucial district win. As the final ball hit the ground, the Dragon Nation student section stormed the court celebrating the win.

“It was easily the longest game I have ever been apart of,” sophomore Joley Plummer said, “My adrenaline was rushing and I was super nervous, but I knew we needed to get the win.”

Currently, the Lady Dragons are in a three way tie for second place in district along with Westwood and district newcomer Vandegrift with a district record of 5-2. Rock Volleyball currently has an overall record of 28-7 with their next game coming up on Friday versus neighboring district rival McNeil.
