Juniors and seniors are given the luxury of having an off period. An off period is offered either first, fourth, fifth or eighth period. Juniors are allowed one off period and seniors are allowed two.

Some students can have more than two periods under certain circumstances such as career prep.

“Career prep is a call that lets you have up to three off periods as a junior and four as a senior,” junior Maddy Peck said. ”This class allows you to get three credits for just having a job and working a minimum of 15 hours a week. It’s really beneficial to me because having off periods helps me balance getting my homework done and still being able to work the amount of hours I want.”

Off periods are given because by junior year, the amount of credits students need to pass are normally exceeded, so the option of taking out an academic class is available . Some students use the time to work, for homework and overall, treat themselves to a period of free time.

“I chose to have an off period so I can have more work hours and if not, get caught up on sleep,“ senior Abbey Kinchen said.

Thanks to off periods, students are allowed time to spend of their choosing. Off periods are not mandatory, but only given upon request. The majority of juniors and seniors favor the off period option, but others remain filling their schedule up with other classes as well.
