Dragon Swimming Makes History

People often associate the months of January and February with cold weather and Valentine’s Day, but for swimmers, it represents championship season. This period of one and a half months gives swimmers the opportunity to post best times, set school records, and win championships.

As the 2019 track season gets closer, the girls track team prepares to meet their goals for this season. After the previous season, the girls are aiming to surpass their goals and make a mark on the track world like they have in past years. The freshmen this season bring a lot of competition to the table, pushing the upperclassmen to step their game up. New goals are set along with new workouts and new uniforms.

Dragons cool red-hot Vipers to capture eighth district win

The Dragons hit the road on Jan. 25 to face off versus the red hot Vandegrift Vipers and their star forward Greg Brown III. Many people had this game marked as one of the most highly anticipated games of the year, and it did not disappoint. In the end Round Rock pulled the win out by a narrow margin of 62-57, despite Brown going for 31 points and 17 rebounds.

As the Dragons are winding down the first half of district play, Round Rock finished off the first half of the season with a crucial win over Vista Ridge 68-45 to keep them in the thick of the playoff hunt. Coming off a two game losing streak, the longest one of the season, the Dragons needed a serious turnaround, and they got it versus Vista Ridge.

Dragon basketball earns crucial wins to start the season off

As football and volleyball season come to a close, basketball season is in full swing. Mens basketball opened their season on Nov. 10 with a showdown versus Austin Akins. The Dragons pulled out the win 62-59. Lady Dragon basketball picked up their first win of the season last Friday over Rouse. Both teams get into the thick of their schedule this week.

Volleyball honors seniors with final home win

In the midst of cold weather and rain, the Lady Dragons returned home on Oct. 19 to play Stony Point on senior night. Seniors Abby Keilen, Katelyn Kubala, Brooklyn Johnson, Nataliya Perry,  and Alyssa Bryan were all honored prior to the start of the game. The Dragons made quick work of Stony Point sweeping them 3-0 on an emotional night.

Homecoming Heartbreak

The Dragons played in their toughest game of the season on Oct. 5 against Vandegrift. It was a match of heavyweight football teams throwing haymakers back and forth throughout the game. Both teams were held to their lowest point total all season, but that did not keep the Dragon’s homecoming game from being an instant classic. Round Rock took the ultimate fight to the Vipers, but fell short in the final seconds 27-24.

Lightning Delays Game, but Doesn’t Slow Down Dragon Offense

October 4, 2018

The Dragons returned home Friday night for their home opener versus McNeil. Both teams exploded in the first half for a combined 61 points. The game took a slight detour when a lightning delay stopped the game at 9:34 p.m. with 11:34 left in the fourth quarter. Coaches and officials gathered together and agreed to continue the game the next day to finish off the the fourth quarter. In the end, the Dragons got their first district win 67-41.

For nearly 20 years the Round Rock Express have entertained the public at the Dell Diamond. Over that time the Express have become a staple of the Triple-A scene and our community, growing into the 40 million dollar club and one of the most successful teams in the MiLB. The Express recently became the Houston Astros Triple-A Affiliate and recently I had the opportunity to talk to one of the men behind that move, President of the Express Chris Almendarez and ask a few questions about being a Minor League Executive.
